Create items in different apps directly from the workspace calendar

I would like to be able to create items from the workspace calendar where I have an overview of what's on each date regardless of which apps the items are from. At the moment I have to go to the workspace calendar to look at the overview, then go to another app to create the item, then go back to the workspace calendar again to ensure it's not clashing with anything else.
