Does anyone at Podio see this?

  • Hi Alf

Yes, we monitor and follow all product inputs (both to collect use-cases we can share with the product team but also to follow votes and general comments). Thanks for sharing your idea and issue.

I'm afraid there is no current solution to your problem. You can add a help text to apps to make sure users know how to use the field but there is no current way to set a default field (only using the category field and making this required).

    Cheers,
    Sara - Podio

    Dear Sara (et al).

That makes it impossible for us to use Podio in operation. Actually that makes it possible for any person in the organisation to create a timeticket in another persons name. We expected to to use Podio as an integrated solution where issues could go from sales over project to support in a flow... but that requires field management... So now we are back at multiple solutions - for CRM, project management (time management) and support.

I ( and others) find it very strange that the request for setting default values has been asked for a few years! now..
Since you have updated the calculations fields - why did you not allow for contact field values like "current user" - or a user equal to a user selected in another app...

You can create a default value.

Make the Category question a required field.
Type in the different Category options
Import/upload the Category options making sure the spelling is exact
Save/publish and the first Category option should be selected by default.

    Hope this helps?

    Hello James Jones..

I have tried your solution - and yes, it is possible to have the top option as the default value..
It does not help me since i need that to be a variable - ie "CurrentUser" or a user from another field.. This could be a field where I assigned a person as responsible in the flow to a deliverable ... when that person would like to report time spent the app should by default pick him/her as the reporter..

I don't think Podio finds this issue very important since it has been reported for some time now..
We will be using Jira with Agile instead..

A workaround is to reference a value field eg. by first adding and then withdrawing that field - resulting in zero - or iclude one in and if statement giving the wanted result (as you need to inlcude a podio variable) - after/ of before that you could add a string, value, Javascript or whatever.

I agree it should be possible to set default values for fields.

The most obvious use case: in a lot of cases you have a date field and in 9 of 10 cases this field has to contain the current date. Over time it would save a lot of "clicks" if you could "instruct" a field to just choose the current date if no other date is selected by the user creating an item.

Does anyone know of a project management tool that does allow this?
