Adding code blocks to Text

I'm looking for a way to add code inlines to text boxes without formatting getting completely hosed. I saw a post referring to markdown syntax but it doesn't seem to work, at least for code blocks. Would love to see an option in the toolbar for this at some point for this but in the interim, am I missing something?
