Is it possible to filter items in an app by the value of a text field?

I'm trying to integrate several tools my organization uses that all store contacts mainly be email address. I need to write an API function that will find someone in our "People" app by their email address.

You don't seem to be able to filter on the value of a text field in Podio, or use the get operation on an item using anything other than the ID.

Is there a good way to do this? Somebody please let me know.

  You can use Search in app to find the item matching the email address. Then you can get the full item using Get Item.
