Rich text editing in podio

  • George, you can!

In fact rich text support is already included in Podio functionality, but is hidden! Look here http://screencast.com/t/omrElAFouL I got this result by copying and pasting an image from Podio comments into a text field. You can see embedded image here http://screencast.com/t/W6MWMUqwUL with a possibility of resizing an making it clickable. But you need first paste image into comments, and after that use comments as a source.

A bit tricky, but it works!

Wow, that is awesome! I've never seen that work before.

Just did some playing around with this and have a couple of notes for everyone here:

-To embed an image into a comment, use this format: ![alt text](URL)

    For example: ![Podio Logo](https://dgyqr055mfays.cloudfront.net/site/images/podiologo_og-v2.png)

-This seems to only work if you also have text within the field, otherwise the text field will go blank after you click outside of it.

Thanks a lot for sharing this!

To insert an image trough the comments is a workaround but a total pain in the a** to explain to a standard user.

Podio, please, It can't be that hard to implement this feature. There are so many use cases for it and so many Podio Users asking for it. It just can't be possible, that you guys are replying to this Post 2 years Ago, that you're testing some possibilities and now there is still no working solution. That's just ridiculous.

Thanks Joel, we agree this would be a great addition to add and improve. Unfortunately we haven't been able to prioritise work on it yet.

I frequently use screenshots as well and we need to have the ability to copy/paste these into a text area.  It's a must!  I'm not sure why this capability hasn't been added yet, but it needs to be on the list of improvements. Thank you!

+1 for rich text capability, and most importantly inline images. It seems bizarre to me that it isn't already included and would greatly enhance Podio's value. This is one of the key issues we have moving to Podio from other systems.

Even since Podio has been acquired by Citrix and became part of their corporate culture, real innovation came to a stand still (seriously, 4 years to develop something like Rich Text Editing??). It is not the eager start-up anymore that truly wants to revolutionize the way we collaborate. In all fairness, it is still the best platform out there, but they start loosing their ground fast. It's a pity but inevitable if Big Corp gets involved (I know, I've been working for Pharma for 17 years, witnessing every singly true innovation being killed by Corporate Antibodies...)

    A shame.

I want to echo everyone's request for a better rich text editor. Given all the off-the-shelf solutions in the market today (my favorite being Froala) and how easy they are to implement, I don't understand what's causing the difficulty or the delay.

I find it funny that the editor I used to submit this comment has two features that the Podio rich text field doesn't: adding in-line images and a smoother hyperlinking process that doesn't require a browser popup. Though I'm not sure if that's because of the ZenDesk implementation rather than Podio's own code.

Here's a list of commonly requested rich text editing features from my clients as of September 2017. Podio has the potential to replace many of our Microsoft Word use cases, but it's not even close to meeting that potential which is disappointing and frustrating.

    • In-line images
    • Change text color
    • Change text background color (especially useful for notes where sections need to be highlighted)
    • Alignment
    • Tables
    • Font sizing (though not as necessary with paragraph styles)
    • Indenting with the TAB key
    • Print (just the field and not the entire item)
    • Clear formatting (though selecting the paragraph style is a workaround)
    • Inserting horizontal lines
    • Subscripts and superscripts

All of the above, btw, are easily doable through Froala. Though I say "easily" without knowing your internal implementation challenges.

We are considering an update to the current text editor, however the improved version will most likely not include things like images or tables as this goes against the structured data approach in Podio.

We believe in structured data where fields help you organise data like images and text. Including images in the text editor will make the item closer to a regular document. That being said, we are considering other improvements related to text formatting, like colors and alignment.

Thanks a lot for the feedback and input!

There are many open source components that support pasting images from the clipboard. I've compared them here - https://github.com/dandv/comparisons/blob/master/JavaScript-WYSIWYG-editors.md

However, it seems Podio development has been killed :(

@Simeon - fact? Have you seen any developments during the past years?

I really liked Podio, but it hasn't kept up with the times.

I've been looking for a replacement and found Notion. So far it's been far easier to use than Podio, and it supports pasting images from the clipboard.

Dan Dascalescu have you switched to Notion yet and in that case does it support same features as Podio?

We are using Podio for our team but I am considering to switch to another platform because of the slow development of the platform. The feature mentioned in this thread about pasting screenshots has been mentioned hundreds of times and no answers from Podio.

Citrix is an excellent example on how big concerns destroy creative open API initiatives like Podio.

Could be great to hear from you @Podio before everybody switch.

Mikkel Veldt Andersen: yes, I've switched to Notion and haven't looked back. It's several years ahead of Podio, which in the world of SaaS platforms, means a lot.

"the slow development of [Podio]"? I haven't seen any development.
