Is Podio still developing its product, or has the development team moved on?

I wish they'd give a straight answer on this.  It really doesn't seem like it anymore.  My company is heavily reliant on podio now, we hired an engineer to custom build a lot of workflows... it's going to be really expensive to transition.  I'm not sure I'd recommend you moving forward with podio at this point.  Some of the functions are really powerful - but then you can't delete messages posted to a chat, or even remove members from a chat as an admin.  It doesn't make sense.  It really seems like after Citrix bought it, podio just froze in time.  They do make minor updates - or buy 3rd party developed add-ons like globiflow and procfu (which are great) - but then they do nothing with them.  It's really disappointing.  They keep promising big updates or changes etc... but don't share anything specific.   You might get a better experience with a more responsive team / product.  (Also, I've been a podio user since 2012/2013. It was *cutting edge* back then, very impressive.  I'm pretty sad to have been around for so long and to be sharing this post - but there really hasn't been many significant changes since 2017-8 (and that was related to globiflow and procfu which were made by external parties).  Podio itself looks almost exactly the same since 2012/13.  The UI has barely changed, and problems like the chat were brought up way back then and just never got fixed.  Should give you a good idea of how things are going.)

    Hi Everyone,

Yes, I completely understand your concerns. Our biggest improvement from last year was the development and implementation of our two-factor authentication feature which is now available to our members. We continually strive to make improvements in areas on the back-end, a lot of this is something that won't be noticed, but is critical to meet customer demand.

In addition, we have expanded our support team as well in an effort to increase response times. Hope this helps to alleviate some of your concerns. I know its probably not comprehensive, but from a technical support side, we push these feature requests to our development teams to review and let them know what our customers are looking for.

I would love to be able to share more information with you but, as Citrix is publicly traded, I won't be able to do so.

    Best,

    Dana - Podio

Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't really answer the question.

As I mentioned in my original post, Podio is missing a great number of obvious functions - and seems to have done so for a number of years. Many of these functions have been repeated feature requests since four, five and sometimes six years ago!

So the question still remains, is Podio a prioritized product with a dynamic and ambitious roadmap, or is it just quietly being left to grow old in the back room?

    Hi Richard,

My apologies that it wasn't completely answered. We are not able to share a roadmap at this time, unfortunately.

To my knowledge, there is no intent of letting Podio go away. On the support side, we update our feature requests and make sure that our development team understands the importance for our customers.

We get many and these all have to be reviewed and their impact to the platform as a whole.

Hope this answers better for you Richard.

    Best,

    Dana - Podio

We are also very much reliant on Podio and we still love it, but my gut feeling says they might pull the plug at some point since development seems to have simply halted. I would not reccomend going with Podio at this time, unless they proof that they are still actively working on updates.

Moving will be a major and costly headache for sure...  and I wish we had some real clarity.

They are sticking to the "we're fully behind it" line whilst all evidence points to the contrary. Like you, we are over-invested in Podio. I think maybe there's a flaw in the database architecture of Podio that Citrix understand and can't solve. That's why we deal with regular Podio "brain-farts". There has been no significant innovation for 3? years. Tells us everything we need to know. Just hope they have an exit plan for their loyal customer base, it will be a disaster for us if they pull the plug.

    Hi Floris and Andrew,

These are excellent concerns and appreciate your dedication to the product. We understand and appreciate  your concerns around the current architecture.

We have been mainly focused on the building the backend and infrastructure. To that end we have been expanding some app packs and enhancing our Workflow Automation. Our Product News page details some of these improvements - https://help.podio.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200077273-Product-News

Our team will continue to evaluate member comments and suggestions and can hopefully bring them to you in the future. These updates have to be weighed against factors that still uphold the connectivity and security for all of our customers using Podio.

    All the best,

    Dana - Podio

Tell you what. Here's two easy enhancements that I could probably code in less than a day and I'm not a programmer.

    1. When you create a new field in an existing app, give the option not to add the new field to all existing views.

    2. Only Export the fields in the current view rather than the whole database.

1 is a major annoyance and 2 would save a load of hacking about in Excel.
