Addresses Importing Backwards

This is a known limitation and bug related to how we are using Google's API for the location/map field. No current plans on fixing it as the current solution would require us to significantly increase the costs of using the Google API.

We might be able to address this for paid accounts in the future if we see enough demand from the userbase. I will move this report to the "feature request" section to track votes.

Thanks a lot for reporting and sharing your feedback!

Yes, there seems to be a bug in the excel import for address fields. It doesn't happen all the time (I've imported 2k addresses and they are ok).  But the address fields also show no map for imported addresses and their parts ( Street, Zip etc.) are returned in a wrong order in calculation fields and in app table view.

Please submit a support ticket (like I did), that makes this issue more urgent  https://help.podio.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

    Hi John,

No news to share on this one yet, we have been prioritizing bugs that affect a larger number of people. I've just asked our developers to take another look at this one and will be sure to update you here when we have a fix. Sorry for the wait!

I'm having this issue too.  Which means I cannot import my prospects as I then have to go in and re-type each one manually in order to get the data corrected - So now I'm left with having to just enter them all manually (could be a few, could be a few thousand.) HELP!

This problem is obviously not being addressed in the free version, my question is are the paid version users experiencing the same problem? This is a huge problem for anyone that is looking to import large number of records with addresses. It totally defeats the purpose of being able to do a import if you have to touch each and every record.

I was told it was a random bug, but I have tried dozens of test imports and it does it every time. It shouldn't be that difficult to fix this problem so what is the hold up???

At least provide an explanation as to why it can't be fixed and provide an alternative process or workaround

I will upgrade my instance if you can tell me that that will fix the problem.

fwiw, the issue only occurs if you upload the address into a multi-line address field, single line fields do not have the issue on imported addresses.  please fix this, seems like it should be easy.

Looks like this bug still hasn’t been resolved - trying to import 2K addresses on the premium version for a client…

I 10X this request!  I import numerous addresses per month and very frustrating that they are importing out of order, then having to manually fix them.

I see the problem, which doesn't seem like a laborious repair.  Under the import excel window, when you match the fields, the fields in Podio import window are out of order - the same order they are displayed after the import:  City, Zip, State, Address.

Problem still exists.. but.. I have a workaround.

    • First set up an import file where you have a column for each value, street, city, postal code etc.
    • Create a new app where you can import the locations, with a reference (!) to the app where you want to use them
    • Import the addresses in an app with a reference to the app where you want to trigger (and see) the map.
    • Now use globiflow to exchange the addresses from the 'import' app to the app where you want the use the locations.

The exchange with gloeiflow will trigger the map.

    I hope this helps.

HERE IS A WORKAROUND THAT WORKS!

STEP ONE: Go into the app where you are going to import the records. Click on MODIFY TEMPLATE. Edit the property address and select the One-line Address radio button. (Don't worry, this will not affect the address of your other existing records).

STEP TWO: Open your excel spreadsheet with all the records to be imported. I'm assuming you have your spreadsheet setup with multiple columns for each property field. e.g., Address, City, State, Zip. Create a new column called One-line Address and merge all the above named fields into this new column. There are plenty of tutorials on excel to show you how to do this but basically you enter something like this into the first field:
=M2&" "&N2&" "&O2&" "&P2  Now you should have the complete address merged into one field on your spreadsheet for every row.

STEP THREE: Import your excel file into the desired app and match the new column you created called One-line address from the left side into the Address field on the right side. Match your remaining fields as needed and complete the import.

STEP FOUR: Once your import is complete you will see the address in the correct format. Simply go back in and MODIFY TEMPLATE and edit the address field again to select the Multi-line address radio button. Save and your done. Voila!
