Linked items - Select fields to view
Hi all,
Is it possible to change what information of the linked items is shown in a relationship field when you type to search for them and not after you select them (where you can edit the view with the reference layout)? I have a case where two or more items have the same name and i need to change what is showing before I select the related items something other than the item name to show.
It takes more than one field to describe an item within an app, especially when you have items with the same name, as currently it only shows the first field.

Hi Fady,
If I'm understanding you correctly you can use a calculated field to combine multiple fields. Set the calculated field as the first field so it ends up as the "Title" in the reference items
You can use formulas like @Field1 + ", " + @Field2 etc to combine multiple fields into one.

Dear Kent,
No this is not what i meant. When you use a relationship field, you have a wide choice of items from the linked app to choose from. However the amount of information that is shown to describe this item for selection is not enough. What if you had from the list, 2 or more items with the same name, how can you differentiate between them? my question though, is there a way we can add more description to each item shown in the relationship field list.

Hi Fady,
What Kent has described would be the only current option to get that working. Adding a calculation field to the top of your app which combines two or more fields together would allow you to more easily identify the items in your relationship dropdown. The relationship dropdown can only show one field, so this is why combining multiple fields into one via a calculation field would be your best option.

Dear Jacquelyn,
but you have to select the item in the the relationship dropdown in order for the calculation field to work and show additional fields.
If this is the case, i don't have a problem after selecting the item in the relationship dropdown since i can easily differentiate it from other items. what i need is differentiation before the selection.
let me know please if i understood you well.
Thank you

Hi Fady,
If the only way to differentiate an item in app A is by what it is related to in app B then I suggest that you reference app B item from the app A item and not the other way around. Once done you cam combine fields to give it a unique title
Otherwise if there are two or more fields in app A item that when combined make it unique (such as using the unique ID) than combine those fields
