Why we need Checklists in Podio?
This question has come up several times. There was lenghty debate about it here. I think, however, that checklist are one of the more important missing features in Podio. We currently rely on 3rd party solution to do our checklists. Ofcourse we would much rather have it inside Podio.
Why tasks can't be used as checklist?
We have tasks. Tasks are great for everyday - to-do's.
Here's a great read on Quora about the checklist vs to-do lists:
https://www.quora.com/Task-Management-What-if-any-is-the-difference-between-checklist-and-to-do-list
To summarize:
"Checklists help us organize our processes making sure we do not skip or omit steps. This allows for the consistent quality of products or delivery of services. It also reduces errors that can lead to disaster.
Tasks are not checklists. Checklists are the codification of standardized processes.
Checklists were born to deal with recurring processes
To-do lists, however, are ephemeral and ad hoc in nature. Once an item is done, it is gone (thankfully!). To-do lists are not standardized processes. "
How I think checklists should work in Podio?
I suggest you add checklist as a list type inside a text fields. Not as separate field type.
Checklist should work inside apps text fields and also inside tasks details field (markdown). It should work like in Google Keep but with option to mix checkboxes and plain text (which Keep currently does not allow).
It should be easy to add and check checklists on mobile also.
What it should not do?
Checklists do not need to be assigned to person. Checklists do not need due date. That's what we have tasks for.

Hi Jure,
Thanks for adding your idea.
I do think you can use the current category field to do check-lists (yes category) in Podio, we might consider adding a check-box design in the future but no immediate plans.

I'm going to give an outsiders perspective because I feel Podio is getting pushed around here. You guys remind me of some of my customers who demand really expensive add-ons when there is already a function in Podio that does the very same or close to the very same thing. When a customer does this to me, I just say, well that item is going to cost 10k for the same functionality. How bad do you want it? Are you willing to pay more for Podio so that you can have the tool customized exactly to your needs? If so, there is an api and there are hoardes of programmers who would be willing to accept $200 per hour to build the exact interface you are looking for. Let's focus on capabilities that Podio doesn't have instead of stuff you that you just don't like the feel of.

You can use markdown notation in any text field to represent checkboxes, like [ ] and [x]
And if you install the SuperMenu chrome extension for Podio, that markdown turns into real checkboxes that you can click to toggle.
