Getting user ID for tasks?

I want to take a Podio user from a contact field and assign a task to him based on a certain trigger. The Get Item call for the item the user is attached to only returns the user's profile ID, not the user ID. This is an issue because assigning a user a task only works with the user ID...

Any suggestions?

To elucidate further- how does one even get a user ID?

Hi Andreas,

Unfortunately I can't solve this with workflows. That being said, I figured out that Create Task can take an email as a parameter for assigning the task, so I'm just going to get the user's email via Get Item.

I'm just wondering what the point of having a user-id as a parameter in any request would be, if there is no way of finding it? Or maybe there is, and I haven't looked thoroughly enough?

Thanks!

Hi Nate,

There should be plenty of ways to get a user id. When you get an item, you also get the user id. Here's an excerpt of a get item response:

{
  "created_by": {
    "user_id": 1305341,
    "name": "Andreas Garnæs",
    "type": "user"
  }
}

1305341 is the user id you could use in a create task call.

Best,
Andreas

 I am also in need of user_id

{
  "created_by": {
    "user_id": 1305341,
    "name": "Andreas Garnæs",
    "type": "user"
  }
}

this is great, could you (anyone! :) ) please advise how to call this and is it possible to have user_id as GF variable?
