New App-Type: Merge-Apps
Idea:
Using an app for tasks is superior to the built-in task-feature for obvious reasons. So why not ditch the built-in task management altogether and instead improve apps so that they can be better used for supervising/project- and task-management across a whole organization.
THE one central feature that would more or less solve all problems of the universe "the podio way" (which is giving the power to the user instead of pre-defining the structure/process) would be this:
- Making it possible to create apps that pull and sync selected fields from several specified apps (in different workspaces). I can imagine it's not as simple as it sounds but it would solve a lot of problems supervising managers have with podio. These Merge-Apps as I call them would be a totally different type of app that has no fields on its own. Instead you would specify which field of wich apps should be pulled into the merge-app. Potential use-cases for this type of app:
- apps for Tasks in every workspace AND (via a Merge-App) an overview of all task-items across all workspaces
- overview of all deliverables in every workspace
- overview of anything, anywhere

Hey Henrik,
a relationship field can only link one item to another as a whole, not single fields of that item. Therefore relationship fields are very useful for connecting things logically, building you project structure and filter views, but it doesn't solve any of the problems mentioned in my post.

But you gave me an idea: workflows!
Case:
Because clients should be able to work together with us on certain project, but should not see f.e. all the tasks across our organization, I can't put all tasks in one single app. Instead I put several Task-Apps in any workspace where it's needed. My goal was to nevertheless offer our internal staff the possibility to view ALL of their tasks across ALL workspaces. This can actually right now be done through workflows.
I created a workflow in every Task-App that sends new tasks to a central Task-App in a workspace where only internal staff has access to. And it seems this actually works. I'll try now if it's possible to (again via a workflow) sync changes made to tasks in the central Task-App back to the one in the client-workspace.
So thank you Henrik for the input!
