    You can easily concatenate multiple field values into a single initial calculation field, like :

    @City + " " + @State + " | " + @County + " (" + @Zip + ")"

    ...so users can filter on anything from that (initial) field.

    Yes you can do that but then you get a lot of un-needed information in your drop down selection. if I'm just searching for County, I don't want to see

    "Whippany NJ | Morris County (07981)"

    Although I will admit I like the look of that formatting and am going to use it :)

    My thinking is that since you can customize the layout look for reference items already, why not be able to customize the look of what shows up in the dropdown list without adding another field to the app. Just makes sense to me.

    I've been thinking about this a lot and I actually think the best answer is to have separate apps for States, Zips, Cities and Counties. This would solve all my problems, although would add 3 more apps to my workspaces.

    Anyway, if you could customize your related app layout within the relationship drop down, I highly doubt you'd be able to make multiple custom layouts, like one for City, one for State etc.; a possible custom layout would be unique, so that pretty much boils down to concatenating into an initial calc field, IMO.
