Column sorting issues

I am attempting to sort by a column. I've noticed that only the items that I created in a list field originally sort properly. I have added new items to the list and they sort at the bottom instead of in alphabetical order with the original list. For example, I have a list of industries that started with, later, I added new list items like Auto Body and Education. Instead of the item with Auto Body as the selection sorting before an item with Auto Sales, and Education before Financial, they both display at the bottom of the table after the item, Video Services.

I am guessing that the list items have numerical values behind the scenes (I've seen the numerical equivalent, instead of the text sometimes appear when I create a filter) and this is more than likely the problem.

How can I correct this?

Chelsea Gwyther, it’s been so long and so many apps later that I don’t remember the actual problem or how it was resolved. I will be sure to go back into future posts to share resolutions as I can see how it would help.
