This feature is indeed missing. For examlple: I have an app with customers and an app with orders. I want to filter orders for customers with a specific mark. In a database this is very easy (just JOIN the tables), but in Podio this seems to be impossible. But I wonder or Podio is reading this, as it is over a year ago the initial post was done.

We read everything, Kees :) Unfortunately this is not a highly requested feature, and this is not currently on our roadmap. If anything changes I'll be sure to keep you posted:

Seems so strange: having the option to create relations between apps, but no option to use it in filtering or reporting.

You can filter and on relationships, but you can only do this on the side with the relationship field, since this is where the content actually exists. The "Related Items" section you're referring to is more of a reference to show that the link exists, but can't be used in reports from that side since that is not where the relationship lives, if that makes sense.

Just adding an additional vote - going to look around for more possible requests of this nature as well. I'm a consultant with constantly rotating projects, deliverable items and clients. I'd love to be able to filter out the related item list as a part of the template on the item I'm working on. This way, I could setup my item template, include the related item, and then select common filters on that item (such as a status field to remove completed items automatically from populating).

Since you can simply type/search I can see why this isn't a significant feature, but it would reduce confusion.

UPDATE: Adding a link to another request of this nature that includes an update on features from 2015 where you can select pre-saved views on related items to help reduce visible options.

This would be useful for me as well. I had to reverse the direction of an app-to-app relationship in order to include a selection box on an external-facing webform. So now I lost the ability to be able to filter in the original app where I was able to filter. I relied on this filter heavily and would love to re-gain the ability through filtering by related items.

    Hi All,

Thank you for contacting us here with your request!

My deepest apologies that we currently do not offer this feature in Podio. However, what I have done is to update our feature request list to include your comments and concerns with regard to it.

While we do not have an estimation as to when we would expect it to be rolled into the platform, we will evaluate this and determine the best way to go about implementing it for a possible future update.

Have a safe and wonderful day!

    All the best,

    Dana - Podio

I just ran into this problem as well, as i had just made much of our functionality rely on relations and that i could filter them. I hope that this will be taken up to consideration again.

Any tips about this issue would be much appreciated.

Got an email on activity here and see that the best method is STILL building out a view and then linking that view through relationship. Here's why that doesn't work (current use case with a client).

I have a customers app where I store all customers. They want all work to start here, so I build in relationship fields for the various records they want to link. those relationships pull in ALL ITEMS or the list of custom items from the view I make, which still can't get down to 'single customer' view. Now they have to search or type in 'New' to create a new item. Every. Single. Time.

What I want to see? When setting up a new relationship field on the app, a checkbox that says 'Only show unassociated records' or something like that. This would, in theory, hide any records already linked to another record and expose any unlinked records and the option for creating new. This way, if someone inadvertently creates a new record directly in the other app it can still be associated to the right parent through this linkage.

Please please please please please please please please please please let us know if something like this is coming. The methodology for building relationships is CRITICAL to building solid experience for users and significantly impacts workflow and usability.
