Remove employees from employee network in free organization
If you are the creator/owner of an organization then you should be able to remove employees that you have added in. I understand that this is limited to ensure that other users within that organization cannot remove employees but if the owner/creator of that app would like to remove someone who they no longer want apart of the employee network should have the ability to remove them without paying for the premium account.

A Help request should permit you to defend your case sufficiently to receive Administrative privileges long enough to remove the person - I once invited someone with a typo in his email & Podio helped in this manner.

No real solution I'm afraid unless you ask the team members to leave your organisation. They can click the wrench icon next to the organisation name, then choose "Leave organisation".
You are not charged "free spots" based on the employee directory - only on employees invited to workspaces
Removing members from the overall organization and employee network is a Premium feature. We would be hesitant to let someone have the power of removing users in a free organisation since this someone could theoretically be anyone in the company. In a paying organisation, the one who can remove members is the one person that is paying.

I originally set up my Podio account to try out the service and see if it would fit my needs. The price is a bit higher that other solutions, but it seems to be much more flexible than something like Basecamp. To test things out I setup a couple of tentative projects, but populated my "Employee" network with friends who were willing to help me test things out (not knowing that they couldn't be removed later without paying), now I'm trying to put in actual people to take this test to the next level, but I can't do that without paying $$. This is a real aggravation and has me now looking at other options since (from what Ive read elsewhere) Podio has no desire to create a fix for this issue in the free version of their service. As such, I will be adding my voice to others who are blogging about this "Gotcha." This issue has significantly tarnished my opinion of of a service I was initially very excited about.

Could it be possible to ask your friends to remove themselves? They can click the wrench icon next to the organisation name, then choose "Leave organisation". It should take 2 seconds for them :)
I also understand this is not an optimal solution but it might work.

im actually in the process of moving my data somewhere else because of this nonsense. i have employee who no longer work here yet im stuck with them in there... that just silly. i do not like to be forced into a corner for a feature that everyone else allows as normal.
i get paying for feature that help you taking things further, but to have to pay to delete a contact is just stupid, the worse thing is i actually like the concept here. Even after talking to them its just " We make a note of it" ..... really!!! doesnt that seems kinda logical???
Never mind it seem that im not the only one who find this feature ridiculous, all this is doing is giving customers to other crm. just like im taking my stuff somewhere else.

Totally frustrated!! There is no way I would subscribe to Podio after my experience with the free version.
Sara, Asking people to "Click the wrench Icon and remove themselves" is not just sub-optimal, it's not an option. I'm leaving Podio, posting my (negative) experience on other blogs, and no longer recommend your service to clients, friends and anyone else who asks for my recommendation.

I'm also leaving Podio because of this same issue - I originally set up an account and had two coworkers test it out with me and now these two coworkers are gone and I cannot remove them from my workspace. I will be requesting my free account to be deleted and I will also recommend one of the organizations that I sit on the Board of who uses Podio to close our account also. This is ridiculous as an admin not being able to delete people.
I completely understand your frustration. Do you know that you can simply create a new fresh Podio organisation to get started after the test phase?
Click "My account", in the top blue bar, then select "Create a new organisation" in the dropdown to get started in a new fresh place. You can even clone your apps to the new workspaces so you have all data in the new organisation.

I want to pay for the premium account but i need to remove employee's that will not be using podio at this time. How can I remove them so I do not have to pay for their employee account in order to remove them?
@Phil, you can always remove them from the workspace when you are the workspace admin. Otherwise, you can just upgrade on a variable plan and then quickly remove the users with one click.

agree and hate being unable to remove left employees
I am kinda' late to this discussion but am also on the verge of dumping Podio.
I reached out to their support and all I've gotten in return is crickets....
I found where to remove a member of the Organization (basically inactivating them) but . . . . they're still listed.
Would be nice to be able to permanently remove members.
