'App Reference' for single input
Hi,
I'm currently using two work spaces - one for client prospecting (for business managers to see), and a second for active project management (for designers to see). The first has a full contact list of prospective and current clients - including billing rates, etc; I'd like to be able to link projects in the second workspace to those clients, without attaching the full contact details - ie just pulling in the client company name, or just the company name and email. Is that possible, or does this need to be put in as a feature request?
Thanks,
David

Hey David
You can use the app reference field to link items across workspaces - thereby link projects and clients: https://help.podio.com/hc/en-us/articles/201019288-App-references
When linking only the first field of the item will be linked/attached - so if the first field is a company name this will be linked. This means that you decide what name/title to link if you modify your app and decide the first field in your app based on this info.
Can this help you?

David - I just was checking out podio again after three years of not having seen it. much much has changed. we're an Intuit Quickbase user and one of the major strengths in that environment is the concept of relationships. You can define a relationship between tables (apps in podio) based on one key field, then going both direction you can automatically get pull down lists, find lookup fields that you can use in the foreign table.
It's all point and click so it makes creating database oriented apps - like the app situation you're talking about a piece of cake.
I don't work for quickbase and in fact am looking at alternatives - their cost, creaky interface, and lack of "social" is wearing on us - we're growing out of the app....
BUT - I need to have the ability to quickly build my own apps (seems present in podio) but do meaningful, detailed lookups of values from one table/app to another and then be able to act on that data in the tables/apps.
Though I'm digging what's gone on with Podio - if I have to revert to some labor intensive coding of some kind to do what I need to do - I'll keep looking.
i'll follow this post. Hopefully there's some kind of easy answer - though I've trolled through the dev and help center looking for an easy, non-coding solution.
maybe someone from podio has a magick wand?
