Choose an app to reference ---- show secondary field with display
Please help --- Is there a way to do the following? We have been told no by Podio
We have two tables
Table 1: Companies
Table 2: People
Table 1: We have 40 locations with the sames business name
Table 1, Field 1
Business Name
Example: ABC Bank
Example: ABC Bank
Example: ABC Bank
Example: ABC Bank
Example: ABC Bank
Example: ABC Bank
... 40 of them
Table 1, Field 2, 3, 4 ,5
Address
City
State
Zip
Table 2: We have people who work for various
Example: John Doe
Example: Sally Doe
Example: Willie Doe
Here is the challenge.... When you go into people to assign a company to them you only see ABC Bank
We need to see ABC Bank - Address -- City --State - Zip (So we can chose the right location when assigning people to the business)
Right now we only see ABC Bank when assigning reference....
Is there are way to show additional fields in the reference view?
We do not want to modify the business name to fix the problem... (This is extra fluff and it is not their business name)
ABC BANK (123 - Hollywood, CA)
Other applications we have used allow this... Please build this functionality into Podio?

I have indeed the same problem. There were several occasions where
displaying only one field wasn't enough. It would indeed be nice when one or
two field could be defined (in the app builder) for showing in the
dropdown. At this moment it is the first field but that sometime does not
contain enough information or there are several items with the same title
but different content. -
Hi, posting again and asking for attention on this problem once more.
I'm building a Podio structure for an educational organization and quickly ran again into this frustrating shortcoming. In fact the whole idea of referencing field can now only function in a limited way. Using a reference to a multiple items app with a title field like a persons name (not unusual;) we can't tell the difference between multiple items of that one person. The workaround is to make a title text field which contains a summary, but that means double work and isn't cleaver.
I hope that Podio realizes this is a feature much needed in a pro system. Please prioritize it. -
Suggestion:
Create 2 small apps:
1 is for the Biz Names (such as: ABC Bank, DEF Bank, etc)
1 is for the Biz Branches (such as 123 Main Street Hollywood CA, 234 East Avenue Madison WI, etc; each of these would be associated with the parent Biz Name)In the primary app, make the first field an AppReference fieldtype, but, instead of bringing in only 1 referenced app, bring in 2 apps (Biz Names and Biz Branches); this will show the values as: ABC Bank & 123 Main Street Hollywood CA, ABC Bank & 234 East Avenue Madison WI, DEF Bank & 789 South Blvd Coral Gables FL).
You're mapping the 2 small apps together, for the primary app. And, you'll have the added benefit of knowing that ABC Bank has 5 branches, and DEF Bank has 10 branches, etc.

@Ron - thanks for the 'pat on the back' acknowledgement and yes, I agree - being able to do string calculations (that are searchable and filter-able) would be great (altho I don't want it limited to 2 fields!!! For eg, City +', '+ State + ' ' + Country
As an FYI, I'm a potential Podio user, not a Podio employee

Yep - we're here (the Podios) - reading, listening and following your discussions :)
