Dropbox file attachment - "Show in Finder" Link
When I attach a Dropbox file in Podio I have to open or download the file in order to edit it. But in many cases I have that file already on my hard drive, namely when it is located in a db folder that syncs to my hard drive.
Then it would be much smarter to open the file locally in my dropbox than downloading a copy of it without knowing where the original file is located. Editing and saving is either cumbersome (find the original file) or produces inconsistent versions.
A simple "Show in Finder" (or "Show in Explorer" or whatever) link would make solve this problem and make the Dropbox integration more useful.

I have a similar question: I have uploaded an excel and word document and want to edit them. I have to download them, edit them and then upload them again, replacing the original? This is not an easy workflow because it involves a lot of steps. I can imagine that you put the content of the word file in the text field but I'm not sure how to ease the workflow for an excel document. Google Drive facilitates online editing. Perhaps a collaboration with them? Or are there other solutions?

The best I've been able achieve on this is to format a link to a file or folder using the file:// URL scheme in a single line text field or link field. For some strange reason I can't use the format file://path/to/folder in Podio but if I add some characters (that don't relate the the folder path at all) like file://ccccccc/path/to/folder before the actual path then Podio will accept it as a valid link.
It sounds like you're using a Mac, so once Podio has accepted the link you should be able to right-click/control+click and choose "Open URL" (it may be in your Services sub menu). You may need to turn this on in your System Preferences --> Keyboard --> Shortcuts --> Services --> Internet if you don't see it.
I put together a quick screen capture if you or anyone else is interested - https://v.usetapes.com/U4NItxOoZL

One step further. Using the afp:// or smb:// network protocol in place of the file:// I referred to in the last post is a far better implementation. It allows for a human readable link and a simple click to mount the folder you're linking too.
Also, I should note that I'm using the Calculation field and JavaScript to build these links using data already in Podio.
