I like the chat feature in Podio, and my team leaves a tab open for messages. It works great.

 

The downside, though, is that the UI uses up too much economy. There's a lot of padding on the top and bottom of each message and a large picture. It'd be nice if the picture could be smaller/removed and the padding cut down. As it is, if there's a lot of dialog the amount of visible text gets reduced quickly by white space.
