Chat App for desktop.
it will be great to create an desktop app just for Chat.
it will be asier to use it without login in to the webpage and you don't get spam with emails when you are invited to a conversation. Similar OCS, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or Facebook Messenger.
thanks

No updates from our side - we have ideas for this but not in the short-team roadmap. For now, we recommend the app built by our partner Anthony Stefani :)
Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

This Chat feature in Podio is such a limitation. We abandoned our IM App, but now the development team is frustrated because they may miss the small beep if they walk away or they have their other apps stacked over the browser and don't see the message notification. Me having to email or call to see if they received the chat seems to work against the reason for Podio. This is must have!

Must have for sure! I run into similar issues where it defeats the purpose of having a fully integrated communication portal. Everyone on my team misses the Podio Chats! Everyone almost all the time unless they hear the tic sound. If would be great if we at least had a semi-obstructive desktop notifier similar to Google Chat.

Sad to see that this has still not been added. We are doing a trial of podio and looking to replace lync but without a desktop prompt I dont see how we can use this as our corporate IM. I believe yammer does chat via web client but has a separate desktop prompt which lets you know a message has been sent. This would also be annoying if you are in the chat and the desktop notifier keeps going off.

Looks like they're working on a beta version for Android and iOS. Can't wait to see them to create Windows/Mac desktop software or even Windows app. I think if Podio creates this software and integrates it very very well with the Podio application slack doesn't stand a chance (except the market share they already have) because slack doesn't have amazing versatile web app!

It would be great to have a chat app, since the browser updates not always work.
We had issues like this:
We have the problem on Firefox that messages sometimes just don't come in and the chat doesn't update. This goes so far that sometimes during an ongoing conversation person A answers person B but B doesn't see the answers. After a while B gets bored that A doesn't answers and thinks A is offline and stops writing. At the same time A is constantly typing answers to B and assumes that B is reading those, because they appear for A between the stuff that B is writing. But eventually, the conversation will end, because A also doesn't get response from B (because B doesn't see anything coming in from A). Then an hour or so later B refreshed the browser tab and suddenly sees A's answers between his own text.
This happened with both sides using Win10/Firefox.
We have only one Podio tab open, since we figured out that Podio reacts even more wired when having multiple windows open.
So +1 from me. -

This is the fatal FLAW of Podio.
Podio wants to replace emails, but if you have a bunch of browser tabs at once (god forbid), there is a high chance you wont ever get notified of your important business messages.
If you turn on "email notifications", it still refuses to email you if you have a Podio browser tab hidden on your browser!
I feel Podio goes out of their way to hide messages from their users. If they allowed either a chat app, or consistent email notifications, our company would be throwing money at Podio right this second.
Also that third party app they are relying on (pwchat) doesnt appear to run on Mac (a somewhat popular operating system)

Hi Grayson,
We've been more than happy to support the features of Podio Chat inside our application, but none of our clients have been willing to put up a few dollars in making it. As I'm sure you know, the PWChat Application is Windows based chat application that more than 100+ organizations use, but they've all been PC users.
If you or you know of anyone that is interested in putting up some money for development, we can customize it for you and your organization. We've already put together some applications that have integrated Podio Chat and Skype in the same window concept, but nothing solid as its been more use case specific. Feel free to send me a message personally at stefani@pwchat.com to talk about it more in detail. Thanks! -
Anthony, thanks for the reply. I think that makes sense. The part that doesnt make sense is that Podio relies on third party companies to make their messaging system functional. As other users have said, it is very easy to miss an message notification with Podio.
For a couple of years I've been requesting the simple option of enabling email notifications for Podio messages. Our company has tested Podio and immediately people miss their message notifications because they still had Podio open in a hidden tab (for shame!). Enabling the email notifications checkbox doesn't even explain to the user that these email alerts will be completely suppressed if they make the unforgivable mistake of leaving a Podio tab open somewhere (why cant this be a sub option to always be alerted?).
Your chat app sounds pretty awesome, and would probably be even more helpful than email notifications! Either way, Podio is alienating those of us that dislike having important messages swept under the rug and hidden from their recipients. I try to emphasize this whenever I can, but the blame is not on you!

Hi Greyson,
I'm not sure if you saw this before, but you can receive an email notification from within the notification settings. If you activate this, you will get an email every time you receive a podio notification.
If you're logged into Podio, click the notification symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then in the popup window, select the settings icon in the bottom left corner. Lastly, place a checkmark next to the "Someone sends me a Message." Once you confirm by clicking on Save, you'll start receiving emails with every message that is sent to you.
From what you posted, I think this is what you're looking for.

Anthony, I think you are honing in on the source of my frustrations.... what if I were to tell you that even when you check the box for email message notifications, Podio still refuses to send you an email half the time (which happens if you accidentally have Podio open in a hidden tab somewhere on your browser).
Crazy right? When I explain to my co-workers why we cant use Podio for messages they almost can't believe that Podio really does this
Try it yourself and see, its very frustrating -
Grayson, let me see what modifications we can do on our end for you. I'll follow back up with you in a few days. Do you want to reach out to me personally via email and we can further discuss? This way we can ensure your needs are met. Let me know. stefani@pwchat.com
