Time 'Till Closed

I'd like a feature to get an automated time culmination between The start time of a particular item and the current day until a secondary "closed" indicator was checked. For example, if I were renting a piece of equipment or working on a long project, I could see how many days the project was going for in a widget until I added the "end time" or selected a "closed" field.
