    Hey all,

Great news :) With the big release this week, you can now perform far more advanced calculation to the brand new Calculation field.

We have an article to explain how this works here:

I agree.  That would take the place of the need for a timer when tracking working being performed.

I agree. It would also be cool if the start and end date field could pre populate with the current time, i.e. start is empty, use now. Later, end is empty, use now. Then be able to calc the difference.

while a current time input would be magical, even just @Jesse Martin's suggestion would make tracking time a lot easier and a lot cleaner aswell.

My current timesheet app references 4 Projects per timesheet.

a simple calculation for start time and end time for each project would make the tracking so much easier.

I'm finding that I have to manually figure out the duration for each project, thus inheriting a seemingly avoidable margin for human error.

Also, the calculation app can only calculate two fields at a time.

    I currently make a calculation for Project 1 + Project 2, then Project 3 + Project 4

and then a calculation for the sum of those two.

the implementation of this across all my staff is proving diffucult.

I am finding the reporting capabilites of podio to be really disappointing. After over 6 months with Podio I am looking for something else because as the CEO I can not see what is happening in my organization.

I would really love to see the ability to calculate the duration based on the start and end times.  I agree that manually entering the duration leaves a lot of room for human error, and the duration field is what's used with the hourly rate to calculate billable time.  I'd love to be able to calculate billable time/duration based on the start and end times.   :)

It would be great to be able to calculate date differences in an app. I don't see it being that hard, a simple datediff in the calculation option would be nice. Why hasn't Podio responded to this here?

While I agree with all of the suggestions for improvement below, I've been using a workaround that might work for some and might not have been suggested yet.

I have two duration fields: one is labeled beginning and the other ending. All time is entered in 24-hour style. (I don't use the seconds field). I calculate the difference between the ending and beginning times, which returns a decimal based upon fraction of the hour. This removes some of the human error, namely the calculation of the duration. Of course, the employee still must input the correct start and end times.

Every time I switch tasks, deliverables, or projects, I create a new timesheet. (I've renamed my app "Time Entry" to better reflect how this app is used.) Each timesheet references a different deliverable or project.

I use this calculation to then calculate how much that time cost on a billable hour basis by multiplying the employee's billable hour rate by the amount of time worked calculated above.

    Hopefully this helps!

It's a great update, however, it still doesn't handle date calculation well. In fact, it's still impossible to calculate the difference (say, in days) between the beginning and end date of a date field.

Any further news on this? I need to calculate work days (not including Sat/Sun) between two dates. Thanks.

I don't think this issue has been resolved yet, has it? I'd love to see this feature developed or find out how I can implement this.

  • Hi Paul,

This should be possible using our calculation field! If you need help with the calculation I recommend to check this Forum: https://help.podio.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200101427-Calculations

We also have a PDF guide attached in the bottom of this article with help to more complex calculations:
