    Hi Maiko,

One of our partners has developed a Gantt chart integration - you can find it here:

Thanks for your message Jacquelyn, I found this tool already. However, I think it is not providing full funcionality (i.e. a Gant Charts visualizing all projects in all workspaces).

Also, it would be great to have something like this included directly to keep our project management in one spot and not scattered around different websites.

    Thanks and Best, Maiko

    Forgot to add:

...in our case it would already help if we could add Apps that display external content, i.e. through an iFrame. I know this feature for instance from Teambox and it was very handy to provide our employees with one central spot for all their web applications.

Yes, that you dont have a Gant chart is a big minus in my book. Its the first this Id consider.

Hi Jacquelyn, I think Podio is great and have been very impressed by it so far. However, I wasn't able to get that link you provided above to work correctly. I second the suggestion to highly consider a Podio Gantt app. It is one of the cornerstones of project management!

    Thanks,

I totally agree. I had to go out and buy an account with Tom's Planner because there is no decent Gant chart in Podio. So much easier if it could have been 'inhouse'. I love Podio but for all of us - I suspect there are many - that works with project management, a Gant chant is a basic feature. C'mon Podio, how can we help you do make this happen?

I agree. A Gantt chart would be amazing. It would be really cool if a Gantt chart could be "turned on" (or off) for custom web apps that are being used as a task replacement. What I mean is that we don't use the built in task functionality that Podio comes with. It doesn't fit our workflow. So we created a web app for tasks. So being able to see the web app item tasks in a Gantt chart would be great.

In my search for an online project management tool that incorporates collaboration I was very hopeful about Podio. However I find that the Project app is more of a task list. It does not allow one to link tasks, to group tasks into products and visualize tasks in time. It seems for now Podio does not target the more professional take on managing projects.

Totally agree Sander. It a big surprise that its not already in place. Its such a basic requirement. I personally have to use Toms planner and its such a hassle to ask colleagues and clients to work outside of Podio, when you have organized them within. If Podio shall survive as a project managing tool, it has to deal with with issue, sooner or later. Its very close to being a deal-breaker for me.

Reminds me of how you cant lock a layer in Pixelmator. Everyone wants it, but upgrade after upgrade does not address this fault.. Such a pity! To make a gantt chart would be easy. If Podio bothered, that is.

    Hva venter i på, dansker?

PS Tordenskjold var forresten Norsk, ligesom Ludwig Holberg.

+1 for a gantt charting feature within podio to schedule resources (objects) of all kinds (like  http://www.ganttic.com does)

With a ganttic like representation, you could manage resources like rooms and peoples worktime quite nice

Agree. Absolutely essential. The Podio projects view are restricting and lack functionality. This is the only thing that is stopping us from full migration from other platforms. Also,  http://gantt.bendixkiel.org/ rarely works and is buggy.

+1 for native gantt charts in Podio. It's the only thing stopping me from promoting Podio to all my clients as I know one of their initial questions will be, "Does it have Gantt Charts?"

  • Dear Jacquelyne,

Please share your thoughts on the above commentaries. Will Podio develop a Gantt Chart app? That would be absolutely marvelous!

    Kind regards,

    Moira

    Hi all,

No current plans to implement this within Podio. I recommend using the integration developed by our partner - if you are having any issues getting it to work, you can contact BendixKiel and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you get that up and running. You'll see there's a contact link at the top of the page - here it is again:

I agree. I'm switching over to something else because of this. I'll be happy to come back if Podio chooses to offer a solution for visualizing the project workflow and timelines from a better perspective than the current calendar functionality.

  • Hey Mike,

We actually recommend building this up with the card layout in combination with filters and reports, you can then drag and drop the cards when your project workflow changes in status over time: http://blog.podio.com/2012/10/17/card/

I know it is not Gantt but it is something we use internally to get overview of project status, resources, and time.

I will have to strongly disagree with you on that. I've tried it and it's only helpful for short term planning. No project management solution should be without some form of linear timeline visualization.

  • Why is it only helpful for short-term planning? You can for example name the projects with categories like year1, year2, year3 or Q1, Q2, Q3 to get the overview you need.

It was also just meant as a suggestion / work-around :)

We just joined Podio today and hope to increase our efficiency by using the available tools. However, lack of Gantt charts is a significant disadvantage. Having native Gantt chart view or app would be a huge improvement for Podio popularity. I hope to this feature in the near future. I read above that it was not in your plans, but may be its really worth it for all of us.

Went through all the comments on this thread. I can only agree with all the people who have requested such a feature.

Need a native gantt chart. Bendexkiel is not working for me. lol

We, at AIESEC, use Podio all around the world. One of the things that draw us back into getting a full integration of our projects in the platform is the lack of a native Gantt app.

A friend of mine is working right now at iGEM and also suggested the use of Podio, but again, the lack of Podio could be a drawback.

How many serious project manager Podio customers does it take to request something for this long?? Gantt is essential to making Podio truly useful. The 'Cards work-around' and the 'BendixKiel app' (although honourable) are poor offerings. We need to be able to see Projects, with filters for sub-category Deliverables and associated Tasks, integrated within Podio, not externally linked. Podio - you will surely win more business from others holding back til this becomes a reality, plus reinforce the buy-in from us existing customers before someone else comes along with a better solution... it's a no brainer. How do we get this request up the priority list? Come on Podio!

    +1 for gantt

The calendar function could have, apart from the month, week and day, a "gantt view".

Gantt chart is a basic requirement. Is there some funding required? Why not do it?

+1 for Gantt!!! Bendexkiel's limitation of seeing only one app at a time defeats the purpose for myself. I want to see, for example, all projects across all workspaces. Then I could truly organize and manage my time.

Podio needs to stop telling users "NO" and start getting their rear in gear to satisfy the user base that keeps them alive.

Another +1 for Gantt. Podio is so close to solving all my project management needs but Gantt could be a deal breaker.

As for the third party site the best thing about podio is everything in one place. I'd like to keep it that way.
