task duration field
it is absolutely important to have possibility to define duration of a task. in minutes. at this moment task duration is streamed to calendar as 1 hour long event. not logical. also unusable this way by gtd.

Hey guys,
We still recommend using a task app for actions if you need more details like duration. Regular tasks are meant for small individual reminders. Adding a duration field wouldn't help a lot since you cannot do reports or calculations on the data. This is possible if you instead use a task app :)
We might decide to change the format of how tasks works completely in the future but this would be a bigger project.
Thanks for your input!

Mette - Task apps are much less convenient to use than regular tasks. I depend on the ease of pressing 'T' and of going to the bottom of an item in an app to hit 'Create Task.' Unless I'm missing something, creating a task in a task app takes much longer and is more constrained as to how it can be done. In addition, the fact that tasks can be show in a calendar without the clutter of everything else makes them especially important.
I really hope this is moving forward quickly. As Norbert says, having tasks in calendars with arbitrary durations doesn't help.

Hi Norbert, Davis and Francesco,
Just wanted to let you know that we have not forgot this request at all, we are just currently trying to figure out the best solution for task management overall in Podio.
Normally, we suggest using a tasks app to define duration for a task. We use the tasks app internally to define duration for for example development tasks.

Is there an update on this? Duration is such an important part to plan your time and the time of your team. As it sets expectations to how long something should take and you reflect back on it to see how long it actually took (hooks nicely into time tracking on tasks - but that is a seperate feature request).

I agree with you all: the duration of a task is crucial when time is limited. Surely, a workaround with tags and manual selection can work. but it would be so much easier when Podio reminds and advises you which task to take care of when the deadline approaches or when you have some spare time. Like a personal assistant would.
So...3 years after this topic started: is there any progress on this?

I want to bring this issue back to the fore.
One of the best way to manage tasks is to schedule them in your calendar.
This is only semi-possible in Podio because tasks have a set, unchangeable default length when shown in calendar. Yes, a task app could be used, but it takes much longer to create a task in an app, AFAIK they don't work across workspaces and you can't simply check a box to mark them done. Apps are great for activities within a projects, but not for individual tasks that can be completed in a day.
It would make a huge difference to how I use Podio if there could be a task duration. It would keep me in Podio rather than bouncing off to Google Calendar where I schedule my task work currently.

A "task app" is not adequate. Podio needs to make a few small changes to be a really useful task management tool. See a thread on this topic here.
