    Hey everyone!

Great news :) With the big release this week, you can now perform far more advanced calculation to the brand new Calculation field.

We have an article to explain how this works here:
    https://help.podio.com/hc/en-us/articles/201019358-Calculations

Thank you everyone for being so patient on this.

Yes, this would be helpful  I'd like to be able to calculate fields across apps. For example, I created an app spec sheet for advertisments. Each Spec Sheet has the ad cost. But I can't find a way to add these all up in my Projects app (which the Spec Sheet app is referenced).

Several Calculation engines out there.  It would be great to first to use the calculation field to allow multiple fields within an item, constants, and a few simple functions to make up a calculation.

    Calculations

    [Numerical Fields]           [String Fields]

    Dev_Estimate(Hrs)         Project_Name

    %_Risk                             Due_Date

    QA_Est(Hrs)                    Client_Name

    Cost_per_Hr(USD)

    [Calculation]

    String ("Cost for"+<Project\_Name>+" for "+<Client\_Name>+" is ") + Calculate( (<Dev\_Estimate(Hrs)> + <QA\_Est(Hrs)> ) * (1 + <%_Risk>/100) * <Cost\_per\_Hr(USD)>)  )

[Test ]   [Reset] [Save Calculation]   [Cancel]

Note: A lot of power can be derived from this feature. Next Step is to allow Complex Calculations for all the items in a View (including, Sum, Min, Max, Avg, Stdev) and then Multiple App Calculations (more complexity)

We could write this for you if needed. But I am sure your awesome team can pull part one of this request together pretty easily.

    Thanks.

Hey guys and thanks for the great input.

We're looking a bit at this at the moment, but we're still in early testing phases and priorities might change as we go along. We'll keep you updated.

sorry to chime in again...but i'm really struggling with the lack of complex calcs.... please.... is there anyway to be involved in beta programs etc?

When we have this feature in any kind of beta, I will be sure to ask you guys in this thread to be a part of it!

Advanced formula creation would be of great benefit to the calculations app.  It would also be beneficial if it allows excel like editing for non-numeric cells as well.

    Gustav,

Is there any update on this? This is something that we have really been looking for.

This is PERFECT. We currently have 4 separate deliverable apps (because they have different workflows) but share a unified "Hours Spent" and "Hours Estimated" sections. We use this to gauge how long it is taking to complete projects. Calculating only two fields at a time is kinda limiting. I would totally love to see this feature!!

I have built some quoting apps and also would love to have more complex calculations.  I often quote using multiple quantities, and always have to factor at minimum QTY x Net+shipping+fees+margin/QTY.  Currently  I have multiple line items to achieve this and with multiple quantities and variations it makes my app several pages long and difficult to use.  I would love to see the calculations upgraded!

If podio can calculate like "Excel" or "Numbers" it would be freakin awesome!

Oh PLEASE add multiple calculation fields. Right now I'm forced to daisy chain a series of calculations to get the desired result and it's uglying up my cool apps.

To take advantage of the solid and already implemented calculation features of any cloud spreadsheet service (google docs, microsoft, office 360, others) , is Podio team thinking of a real-time sync with these services?

Interesting, third party developers have already done this (hope to find time to try it):

    https://help.podio.com/entries/21763467-Has-anyone-tried-integrating-Google-Spreadsheets-with-Podio-Yes-

By the way, this architecture should  help to solve also the bulk update issue, the pdf reporting, and many other issues.

Best of all, PODIO / Citrix could create its own cloud spreadsheet service... but if it is so difficult for PODIO to create a standard calendar frontend,  to make an elastic web layout, or to add a PDF export to a view...  a custom spreadsheet service is definitely  too challenging :)

@DJ Carey: I know how you feel! I have at least 3 fields devoted to calculating one result!

@Andrew Davis: Agreed. Imagine if we had those complex calculations and you could add them to your market apps as well. Project budget-tracking, lead scoring, all kinds of amazing features could open up a TON of great features to a lot of community apps. Fingers.....still.....crossed.

I agree with everything being said in this thread. This is something that would be greatly beneficial for us as well. I'd love to be able to do multiple calculations, even in the same workspace.

if it would help any, i found a way to do this, but it is not a very usefull way if you have many cals,.. But my workers, fill a timesheet for every day of the week, and i want it to cal all the 5 days. but i could only cal 2 items. The way i hit it, was just to make a cal for mon + thu and one for wed + thu and then i maked a cal with (mon+ thu) + wed+ thu) and in the end i make the final cal with (mon+ thu) + wed+ thu) + friday. and there you go, i had the full call. And in the webform i just hide thise cals.
