Take a look at the rails sample app, in particular the application controller where you can see how the Podio client is setup with the oauth token. After the setup step, you can use all the API methods as per the documentation.

So I've done the right thing by obtaining the oauth token using the Sinatra example? Now it sounds like I use that token to initiate the Podio Client, as you've linked to.

I guess I was confused as to why the Sinatra example has the clientID and clientsecret when obtaining the oauth token only to have to provide that data again when initiating the Podio client.

Finally able to get this working by not using the oauth2 / sinatra example and just using the built-in Podio components and taking some of the concepts from the examples you linked to with respect to session and properly initializing Podio.
