Can we run API code to build new things with Podio on its own platform, or does it require a separate web server?

The Podio API looks powerful but I can't see a way to access that functionality without calling it from an external service or server. Is there any way to use it 'internally'?

For example, I might want to create a task when someone adds a new customer, or I might want to create a set of tasks when someone adds a new sale and assign those to a particular user. It looks like the API can do this, but it seems silly for us to have to use an external service or server to achieve that. Can it be done all within Podio?

Yes, you will have to do this on your own server... :)

We are using PagodaBox.com and plan to also use AppFog.com... these make it super easy to spin up a PHP development environment... and very low cost...

OK, thanks for clarifying. I'm not familiar with those types of services. Can you explain how they differ from a standard web hosting server and how I can use them with Podio?

The way both of these work is they are tightly integrated with GIT... you basically create a GIT based project, "push" your code to their service... their service then sets up a server on the fly and deploys your app on the URL you specified you can then go to their control panel to configure the server resources available and thats it...

You never actually deal with a "server" per se... it is quite AWESOME!

We develop all our stuf on Google Apps Script, which can handle the Podio-stuff quite well. We use it for several things. I.E. automatic project numbering.

Nope, GAS is JavaScript. Podio API is all about passing JSON to and from and JavaScript is pretty good with that :)
