Why would I use workspace contacts?

Why would you ever use workspace contacts? You don't get the goodness of being able to sync those contacts with your Google apps account, so in the end workspace contacts are just a kind of primitive app that can't be modified. So why would you use the workspace contacts?

If you need contacts in a workspace, just add an app that handles contacts. You can have modify it to suit your needs, and it seems to make more sense.

Or am I missing something here?

I guess the reason I use it is because the detail in it is included in an excel export (if you just referenced another app you made called contacts the data is not included in an excel export ) I use exports to do updates to my email marketing software and old fashioned mail merges.

But I would really love them to be able to be used across workspaces and be modifiable (at the moment I have anther contacts app to record first and last name separately!)

Important is the ease of updating one source of data, for example, as soon as I get an email from a new contact add your data in the catalog using the google copy2contact, this unit syncs with my smartphone, I have available in times of need communication, and synchronize with podium is also very good to associate the activity log, contacts sync is more productive.

Kind of a “catch 22” here, as contacts are less flexible than app items, BUT... you can create these on the fly... (“Add new contact”), which you can't do with reference fields... (e.g. you have a Client required field in a Project app, referencing a Client app; create the Project item, and realize the given client for the project item is not yet entered...).

“Add new item” within reference fields would be great...

Gijs van Dam, for me there are a few reasons I have found. First reason is that the workspace contacts can be added new or can be easily pulled from a linked Google or LinkedIn account. And with an app like Zapier any new workspace contacts created can be automatically synced to your Google Contacts. Alternatively, workspace members are not a way I would add prospects or other contacts you are not collaborating with and that do not need to access your workspace. Using an app with text fields for a contact is not a versatile solution. If you use the workspace contact field in an app it can then be easily referenced from other apps.
