Hey everyone! Great news :) With the big release today, you can now perform far more advanced calculation to the brand new Calculation field.

We have an article to explain how this works here:

    https://help.podio.com/hc/en-us/articles/201019358-Calculations

Thank you everyone for being so patient on this. We hope this can help you get your work done even more efficiently :)

I would like to add, it would be nice to add together more than just 2 fields.

I second that. The ability to add together more than just 2 fields and the ability to do calculations based on criteria e.g. approval status or a category setting.

    Thumbs up.
Maybe a real report tool with more robust calculation, filtering by criteria, export to PDF / XLS, etc. Of course this functionality must be well planned, following PODIO philosophy and UX quality.
I missed this functionality when my client asked me for a report of deliverables that were In progress with their average progress. I wasnt able to make

    Hi all!

This is actually something we've been considering. No solid plans yet, but there have been a few requests for this so we are discussing this possibility.

    Thanks for the feedback!

A great function here would be for creating dashboard apps. So if I had an app of all open sales opportunities submitted by resellers that included data like "Number of seats", Amount of Revenue, etc. I could create a dashboard app that allows me to total and entire column in the aforementioned app to see total amount of revenue in the pipeline and total number of seats at stake. An additional feature would be to be able to break that down by date if there was a date associated with the aforementioned numbers.

This is one of the only things about Podio that leaves me a little underwhelmed, so it'd be great to see some work in this area.

    1. Ability to perform string operations on text/number fields. Eg. Our deliverables each have a number field. It would be nice to be able to view all the numbers for all the deliverables at the project level. i.e. string concatenation with a delimiter would be sufficient.

    2. Calculations on date fields, with ability to reference the current date/time. Displaying no. of days until deadline would be clearer than the date itself.

If either of these are possible and I've missed it, please let me know!

I would also like calculations on date field. I have birthday's inputed (currently as text, not as a date since doing so would mean the date and not the image would appear in badge mode).

The birthday itself is not important. What is important is current age, so doing a calculation that can include a variable "today's date" would allow me to always see each person's age.

Being able to perform calculations on dates is critical for project management and lead workflows.  Additionally, advanced calculations in general have been what has kept our company from moving to Podio and becoming a paying customer.

We're in the process of designing a web form that lets us design advanced calculations using drag-and-drop, that are performed via the API (date calculations was a big annoyance for us as well - we want to see which Invoices are overdue).

We'll provide the source on Github for anyone who wants it - may even set it up as a web service if people are interested.

Calculations on Dates is a must  when a  workflow is under Service Level Agreements, for example a task or step must take no longer than xx days / hours.

I suggest you to provide  a date operator that calculates the difference between the second and first date of podio standard date control: can be very useful to report time durations, or actual vs. planned deadlines (very used as service level indicators).

It would be very powerful to set a unique date control in forms like "Deliverable published on date (planned/actual)" and being able to report on it.

My vote is for calculations based on criteria, especially categories. As it is now, we are having a hard time running calculations based on specific deliverable types since all our deliverables are in one app. The only solution for us at the moment would be to break out each type of deliverable into different apps, which would not only be a pain, but would defeat the purpose of the category feature of the app builder for us.

    Please do this soon! :)

+1 Rocky. I've come across a need for this too since my first post.

    Include dates  so that 10/1/2012 + 30 = 10/31/2012

I would also like to see being able to make calculations of categories choices...  As in I send out a webform and someone selects X choices that number is able to be calculated from several different categories ot come up with a total

I'll throw my hat into expanded calculations as well.

The scenario I'd like to see is as follows:

    • Orders App that references a series of product listed in another app
    • In the Orders App, being able to select a Customer along with multiple products each with their own quantity

This would require the ability to record multiple records for the same field.

    Hi there,

Me Too for the date calculations. Simple add and subtract with an ability to know what "today" is would do Just Fine to start. I'm sure you smart people in Podio could implement this in the blink of an eye? Or at the very least over a coffee break :)

I just want to throw my vote in for the date calculations as well.  "Today", add and subtract will work for my needs

If the fields in Podio are comparable to cells in excel:

It would be awesome if we could apply the same kind of formula's.

    • First step: =(...); =SUM(...); =PRODUCT(...); etc.

    • Next step: IF (...) ; ...

This would really open up incredibly more possibilities to Podio.

date calculations. please.  also an app to show exactly what time it is where my co-worker is at.   I mistakenly scheduled a meeting that forced my guy in the Phillipines to wake up at 5am for our meeting.  Had I known, I would have tried to accommodate better.

Trying to build a Risk Register calculating Probability (P) x Impact (I) = Threat (T)

Using Categories to select P and I.

Anyone know how I could do this given the current possibilities in Calculations?

Hi, I had the same situation here and it seems that it's not possible. As a work around, I created another App that was the Categories with two fields: name and value and them used them as field on the App that needed the calculation, using the "value" field for the calculation.

In your case, you would create 3 Apps: Probability Categories, Impact Categories and Risk Register, linked the 2 formers in the latter.

The problem here is that the field that is a Reference to another app is multichoice, wich can be a problem.

PODIO team: It'll be nice to either have weights on categories and them be able to use them on calculations and/or have a checkbox on Reference Field to make possible single selection on this field.
