currency conversion
Answeredi see there is a way to input currency from different countries, but is there a way to have that input amount be converted to local currency? for example, i have an app that tracks products, some prices are in thai baht that we have to manually convert to USD, it would be great if podio could some how make those calculations so every product is using a similar base price.
i know there is a mathematical formula but the conversion rate will change with each different currency

Hi Kai,
You can use a calculated field for this, but this would be handled "manually" as you would have to keep check of the exchange rate of the currency and change that in the calculation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF3oz6gU0Bs is a video that describes a bit about how to use the calculation field.

thanks gustav, i don't think the calculation would work for me because i would need a different formula for each currency - that would just be too many variations and confusing. it would be cool if currency rates could be pulled from an official bank source and auto convert things but it's probably not a common enough issue to be worked on

Sherry,
You can also find a link to the video about the calculation field here (scroll down): https://help.podio.com/entries/21697027-the-building-blocks-in-the-app-builder
I sure understand your idea Kai, thanks for adding your input on this.

Dear PODIO team. First of all thanks for the great product.
I want to add myself to this question. I need currency management solution. I have different customers/partners in my portfolio and I have contracts with them in USD, EUR and RUR. And I need to convert it in RUR manually in Excel to create the whole picture of protfolio.
It would be greate if you create such functionalty to convert currency accroding to the selected source of conversion rates.
Thank you.

We have created a work around for this.
Create a Currencies app with the fields of Code, Description and Exchange Rate.
Then in your original app, say "Order", add an app reference to the Currencies app.
Then add a calculated field that does OrderValue Divided by the SUM of the Exchange rate from the currency table.
This not ideal as it does deal with the issue of fluctuating exchange rates so if you make a change to the rate, your historical data will also change.

Allow me to request the same thing - automated currency changes, and add one more.
It's TERRIFIC that you can set it up so you can enter two different currencies, but the problem for us comes when you build a Widget. I would like the Widget to carry both currencies - in our case US$ and KRW - but when you enter W10,000 KRW at one point and then enter US$10 (Similar values), the widget calculates the sum to W10,010 (or $ depending on how you label it). Obviously I'd love to enter one or the other and then have the widget show the total of both. Right now we have to have a workaround of two different currency possibilities along with two different Widgets for each total. It sure would be great if it divided the currencies on it's own in the Widgets as well.

I have developed little app which can help you with problem.
By using this "Hook generator" you can attach hook to automatically convert 1 currency to another.

Starting with Podio (great work by the way). We've an app with amounts in different currencies, cool it works nice and clean. So let's create a report to have an overview, and surprise all amount are added without taking care of the currency. I haven't found a way to have at least the report by currency (fx is not trivial).
@podio, adding a field money, allowing different currencies and reporting the sum it's really, really amateur. What is the use of adding up usd, euros, chf, gbp ?
