Chat in Podio
CompletedI asked this question guys from Podio time ago. Here I am in their face again. Any chance to get chat feature into Podio? Maybe each conversation associated with space/app as tasks are...
Keep shipping!
Thanks!

Chat is something I miss, too, but even if all you did were to improve the commenting that would be huge. So often we have more than two people commenting back and forth on a project, and it's cumbersome to quote back and forth. In my ideal world commenting would include any or all of the following:
--A quoteback feature
--A "reply" feature, that lets you reply to a specific comment even if it's way up the chain
--Actual time stamps
--Message numbers or identifiers

I'm with one of the earlier commentators, in that 'Chat' is likely to take a detour around current features. I mean to make a workspace, develop an app, set some tasks for people and monitor and be involved with the progress, this seems a good way to set and achieve team goals; but chat is going to double up on work unless it replaces one of the core functions like comments? I just don't see the value. Podio is a record, chat is ephemeral, here today, gone tomorrow...

I hope Podio will not listened to the children with tantrums who demand chat. Those children make their claims loudly and vigorously to get what they want. For simply one reason, to quickly go around participating in the process.
There are already many good chat applications out there that can be used.
What would be better than chat is a sophisticated user statistic. To identify the users that are not participating in the process. To show which tasks and apps they are not following up and the time they take to take action. And let me guess, this would be exactly the same users that demand chat.
Oh and off-course my opinion will not be very popular with the children who demand chat. But things still need to get done and diverting work to others is a coward act.
But nobody takes a stand. Nobody says, this is our strategy and we stick by it. And chat would have a negative effect on our strategy. And business professionals should be able to handle this. It is called "Disagree and Commit".
CLARIFICATION: This is an ironic comment ;-).

I'm totally convinced that real-time chat is a nonstarter. Fine. But can we PLEASE improve the comments function? How do teams with more than two people manage to "converse" in comments? That's a serious question, and if anyone has figured out how to make this work without quotebacks or "reply-to" functionality, I'd love to hear it.

Any news on the chat since the last info from Sara Høeg 3 months ago? I'm definitely interested too. I understand roadmaps cannot be public, but giving 8 months in a row the same vague status to a popular user request is not transparent enough either.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey Sébastian and others,
You are right that we are taking our time. Here is something you might find useful:
http://blog.podio.com/2012/11/01/synergy/
It is a blog post (including a video) from november 2012 showing the beta version of what we are working towards. Chat is first step yes and will be ready soon (again can't say when - we want it to be really good). Next big step is what my great colleague Phil puts it in the video above "Audio, Video, Podio".

Great, that's the info I was looking for. It would be great to have a place for feature request details (you have the tool, anyway...): rejected/assigned/worksforme/later, useful pointers, # of requesters, etc. Nicer than reading through 100 comments, and could serve as a Podio showcase.
Thanks for the quick feedback and have a nice day, Sébastien

We don't support Internet Explorer 8 unfortunately. It should work in Chrome. Let us know in Support if you need help.
