Chat in Podio
CompletedI asked this question guys from Podio time ago. Here I am in their face again. Any chance to get chat feature into Podio? Maybe each conversation associated with space/app as tasks are...

Thanks!

agree...a chat feature is really missing...i am trying to convert my whole team to Podio users and the missing chat feature is am obstacle to getting everyone on board.
If the conversation is happening in Podio, and not in gmail/whatsapp/facebook...the team would be naturally inclined to return to Podio
Looking forward to a chat feature :)

In my mind - this is a must feature that needs to be released because right now we are mixing Skype & Podio and that would cut Skype out for chatting... Need to track chat related to workspaces and have feature to search that chat -
Podio rocks!

Hi guys!
I think PODIO will soon give us the chat feature, but I don't think this is simple as some guys are saying. In fact, in software development - specially web -, to make something look simple and easy to use, a lot of hardwork is involved and PODIO is not making a "simple chat", as he didn't made a "simple task creator", or a simple "web form builder". Everthing looks simple, but for those who knows the disciplines involved in software development will know that a lot o investiment was made on non-functional requirements on PODIO features and a lot of tests too. It takes time.
Another point there is that PODIO is from Citrix, a Company that has other products such as GoToMeeting, and the Software Engineerings responsabile for all of these Citrix products must be talking about integration within those products or if its possible to reuse something from one product in another, etc. Its something Enterprise.
As I said before I'm missing this feature on my company too, but I can happily wait for that because I'm sure PODIO is realising something really mature, easy to use and pragmatic.

Would be interesting to hear from everyone on this thread what your ideal chat implementation looks like.
would you expect to use another client (e.g. adium) or is only in-browser important to you?
would you expect to have a desktop notifier as part of this?
would you expect to be able to turn it off? etc etc

Comments in bold below:

[MG] Just In-browser would be fine
- would you expect to have a desktop notifier as part of this?
[MG] Yes, there would need to be some way to notify a user of a IM being received if they weren't looking at Podio at the time.
- would you expect to be able to turn it off? etc etc
[MG] Yes, you should have some control over whether it is enabled or not.
In my view also, you should be able to chat with both an individual or have the ability to chat with a group of people

In browser like GMail has GTalk integratedwould you expect to have a desktop notifier as part of this?
Nice to have... but not a need to havewould you expect to be able to turn it off? etc etc
At least the possibility to logoff. Again like the version of GTalk integrated in GMail.

Couldn't notifications be fairly easily implemented using the HTML5 notifications API. For example hypem.com has this implemented and works wonderfully on Mac OS 10.8.

I doubt it'll be a good idea. I believe what will happen is that members that are already finding it hard to colaborade in a structured way on podio will use the chat to shortcut using the apps on podio. I can already hear the excuses...."can you just do that, bla bla"... instad of commenting in the right place or opening a task.
I believe chat is contra-productive here. But hey maybe I am wrong ;-)
